SUNDAY HEADLINER – AMELIA UNITY

pic by Amy Farrer
By the time Amelia joins us, she will have already performed as part of LADIES OF RAGE the previous day. But it is not all about ‘rage’ it is about asserting the right to express, with hints of the street, hints of family life, exploring sometimes hard truths with passion and honesty with increasing presence as a performer as stage experience racks up.

GORDON ANDERSON
Often having thoughts exploring the contending views of what is meant by the word ‘Man’ you can expect quizzical words from Gordon with hints of sweet and dark. He has seen things you people wouldn’t believe. He may tell a tall tale of the creator of Cillit Bang…or demonstrate a banana protection device…He also regularly organises and hosts Open Space for Cardiff Central Library HUB, featuring a plethora of poets and novelists launching their books and offering their back catalogues of wordy wares. Gordon has performed at many events, including Where I’m Coming From Open Mic
ROSIE BUF
Swansea Poetry Slam Winner 2019 and part of Ladies of Rage, Rosie brings Megaverse words of empathy for the struggles of others and exploration of what it means to be human and be in search of identity and balance in life. Humility itself in person, and powerful on the page and stage. LEARN MORE
post megaverse update…the morning before Sunday Megaverse, Rosie Buf RAN A FREAKING HALF MARATHON…many kudos points, hope you weren’t
in sunburn pain!
BECKY CEE
Introduced to Megaverse by Sunday Headliner Amelia Unity, Becky Cee is an upcoming performer, her verbal landscape includes frowning at people for being adidicted to rating things online and seeming to forget real people exist to connect with…and celebrating the capacity of imagination to offer a whole universe to escape into, meld with, learn from…She, will like all the other peformers bring her personal universe along, and that is the whole point of megaverse, everyone brings their universe and together these realms combine into a…yes…Megaverse!
CULT OF DORIS
Judy Price is Cult of Doris, a spoken word artist and Electronic Music Producer / Artist. Jude is also part of the Cardiff collective Ladies of Rage and Cardiff Electronic Producers Network. Cult of Doris creative content , is influenced by her lived experience of daily life and uses humour with a little dash of sarcasm to convey her stories in spoken word and song. Cult of Doris, as a live music artist incorporates Music Technology, Ableton Live and recorded Instrumentation to produce and perform live music that is influenced by everything from early jazz, blues, funk, hip-hop to current day pop trends. DAVE DAGGERS
Dave is his own enthusiastic creation, a freewheeling, free spirited artist, photographer, poet and (mostly) comic songwriter. Irreverent, irrepressible and individual, generous of soul and encourager of all types of creative expression. Spell check says encourager is not a word. Screw you spell check, it should be a noun, and more people need to be that noun to help make a better world! Be like Dave, be an encourager.
ALIX EDWARDS
Artist, photographer, writer, performer and creator/host of Cardiff open mic night Company of Words. Alix delivers uncompromising, hard hitting tales of female experience, a theme that influences some of her creative projects. She has a solo four week exhibition of her art at Cwtsh, Stow Hill, Newport, from Sep 1 to Sep 29 2019
JOHNNY GILES
Prolific and edgy, devourer of poetry books and ever seeking the best way to let out his flow, Johnny’s book Chalk Outlines provides a way in to the world of his words which he performs with a curious mix of modesty and nervously energetic assertiveness.
ADDE JONZE
The creative mind behind musical act Excellent Skeleton, Adde is an intense presence with strong words to share, not only those powered by the need for feelings to find expression as an existential necessity, but sometimes hilarious consternation about the (to him) less essential nature of the apparent obsessions of others, such as cake. More specifically, Lemon Sponge. Would be awesome to hear that one again, Adde!
HILDE JORGENSEN
Multi-lingual Hilde spends much of her time translating/subtitling TV shows while concurrently taking care of her writing goals, partially via writing groups in Cardiff and sharing words that are often a river with many undercurrents of lightness and intensity.
DES MANNAY
Des, self-styled Hooligan Poet, displays various intensities of raging against the machine, social injustice, the complexities and perplexities of seeking to remain a decent human being in a world seemingly increasingly beset by the inequities of the evil men of power.
FIND OUT MORE
MARIO
A sunny disposition in person, as a poet Mario delivers surreal and complex imagery with words hewn from the granite harsh trials of life and arranged to his design
ELIZABETH MARSH
The owner of a questing and inquiring mind connected to a restless, rarely still pen, Liz found her courage and a whole new life to live at least partially after finally finding a freedom to express herself via words that was denied to her in any other way. A live wire of a human, with words that will either be flights of imagination or heart-stoppingly, almost brutally, real
BRYAN MARSHALL
Former teacher and currently creator/curator of weekly Cardiff writing group Bryan’s Angels, Bryan Marshall has an infinite capacity to explore poetic forms and a vocal range that sometimes gently invites you to lean in for a closer listen, sometimes suddenly climbs to a roar that may rock you back into your seat and probably sometimes wakes the dead…
FRANCESCA MURPHY

Pic by Simon O’Connor
Bringing a mix of spoken poetry and acapella renditions self-written songs to Megaverse, Ladies of Rage and numerous other stages, Francesca Murphy delivers whole-heartedly, bringing smiles to faces including her own, passion flows strongly from this performer! One of several Ladies of Rage taking part at Megaverse this year
MAGGIE NASH
Appearances can be deceptive, for while Maggie Nash has a ready smile and calm demeanour, she is absolutely assured behind the mic and the causes dear to her heart are pursued with unstinting passion and fire. Or she may deliver words borne of self exploration, discovering a place in the world, learning to set self free from the thing that often holds it back, the self itself and the fear and doubt it can create in any of us! Whatever she brings, it will be brought with utter conviction and without apology!
CLIVE OSEMAN
Seen up and down the UK in spoken word nights and slams, Clive has published collections including LIFE. Wry, defiant, self-revealing, Clive loves his hometown Birmingham more than Swindon, although with Nick Lovell has set up a now well established regular spoken word event in Swindon called OOOOH BEEHIVE so helps create spoken word buzz where he lives as well as buzzing around the UK to perform!
LINDA RHINEHART
Understated, softly spoken, dry of wit, the ostensibly calmly centred Linda Rhinehart perceives the world with laser sharp eyes and refined senses and fashions the ideas, emotions and images her perception collects into pristinely crafted lines that convey a worldview of yearning for the beautiful, sometimes suggesting that it might be elusive, even nowhere to be found, but finding it often enough to keep the inner spark dancing
FRANCESS
Kinesiology practitioner and Therapist Francess is a living embodiment of the principles of her work and spirituality, consistently asserting a vision for humanity you could say is a gently presented version of the plaintive demand from Dylan Thomas to rage against the dying of the light. Love, in the generalised sense of love for life and existence itself…if that is what eventually saves us all from what often seems to be a very dark world, Fran will have been one of those who has spread a message of love as a healer without equal, without doubt.
BRIDGET LEGGY TANNER
Sweet and self-effacing, Bridget Leggy Tanner has previously written with multiple double entendres about chocolate, delved into pieces reflecting her personal life trials and tribulations. A mix of light and fluffy with inner steel revealed to those who know her best, or treat her worst…
MAT TROY
Curious, curiouser, more curious still, the more you hear of the words of Mat Troy, the more you will be exposed to an almost feverish level of quirkiness and infinite armies of characters in recognisable yet surreal scenarios waiting to be released onto the page and and stage. Mat operates as a spoken word performer, comedian, writer of stories, scripts and plays, a connoisseur of the absurd that can be observed in reality and the absurd that only the imagination can dream up
GARETH TWAMLEY
Trained actor and deliverer of poetry that ranges from personal to satirical, Gareth ‘Twammers’ Twamley is a man on a mission to facilitate expression, his own and that of others. His open Mic night LYRICAL MIRACLES regularly pulls in the punters and their poetic patter across the river from the Principality Stadium (which, as Han Solo would agree, was much cooler when it had the word Millennium in its name). Also a performer with musical/spoken word ‘family’ The Pride, Gareth is a whirlwind of energy given freely to wordy folk and fans of such folk and occasions.
THOMAS TYRRELL
A literal Doctor of Literature, Thomas Tyrrell has a particular fondness for verses telling tales of sea faring scurvy dogs, historical and fictional. Intense of presence, impressive of beard, with a resonant and rich voice for deploying in the name of delivering his verse.
