MAB JONES, INTERNATIONAL EXPLOITS, POETRY AND NOVELS, HEADSTAND PODCAST, PRESENTED AND PRODUCED BY PATRICK WIDDESS

My rather comprehensive headline pretty much says it all about what you can expect from another Podcast from Poet, Presenter and Producer Patrick Widdess, who recently recited his way to the runner up spot at the Made In Roath Summer Poetry Festival Slam, missing out on the first spot by the narrowest of conceivable margins. CLICK HERE to hear Mab and Patrick chat of things literary and international, of good and bad health and how someone can find themselves living the life of a performance poet without ever originally intending to. HEADSTAND is a semi-regular series of podcasts eclectically and electrically spotlighting poetry and music for the benefit of cyberspace. Give it a listen and check out the archive!

POETRY SLAM WINNERS ARE ALL FILTHY RICH AND SUPER SEXY!!!

Wish that headline was true but it does feel good to win a Poetry Slam, and last night I did, at the MADE IN ROATH SUMMER POETRY FESTIVAL 2015

Not exactly sure what to say about this. Suffice to say, it does feel good but also strange to win and it feels weirdly easier to find words to make not winning sound positive than to say something positive about wining without feeling like it is bragging. So I will say I am chuffed, but don’t think I am suddenly ‘The Man’ or any crap like that!

Slams can be merciless, with sometimes only one point making the difference between someone being knocked out or progressing to the next round. Slams can be a baptism of fire and it is very easy to feel burned by them, and previously I have felt more than a little singed. So to Patrick Widdess (runner up), Allie Downing, Dave Daggers and Johnny Giles, all of whom go places with words I never could, via routes I have never travelled, nice one people, the clock don’t stop tick-tocking, so keep it a-rocking!

I do like to make people laugh, and I am glad that people laughed last night. And not just at my face ūüôā Anyway, wealth is relative and sexiness is in the eye (and other parts) of the beholder ūüėČ

And those who know me, know it’s not all about silly stuff ūüôā

Pics from the open mic at Ye Olde Murenger, Newport 20/05/15

Ye Olde Murenger House, Newport on Wednesday, May 20th, 2015 saw the latest of the regular spoken word poetry nights held as fundraisers  by CWTSH to help run the former Stow Hill Library in Newport.

Hosted by the warm and welcoming ALAN RODERICK

Who delivered his own poetry with self deprecating charm during a night featuring

LEON CHARLES

CHRISTINA THATCHER

also featuring OTHER POETS

Some  shots of Leon and Christina follow, then pics of OTHER POETS

OTHER POETS!

Apologies to the OTHER POETS, who I have referred to as such (including myself) because there are a a couple of names I am not sure of, and I thought it would be fairer to call us all OTHER POETS than to leave anybody feeling left out by not being namechecked. It isn’t a nice feeling when someone doesn’t remember your name, and I certainly don’t expect everyone to remember mine every time I read (I’d have been disappointed quite often if I’d expected otherwise, actually). No harm or offence is meant here and I hope you all take it in good spirits ūüôā

Suffice to say, the night at Ye Olde Murenger brought a wide ranging mix of words, from the irreverent, to the sung, to the angry, to the sad, to the heartfelt, and the heartbreaking, and I have no doubt the same will be true next time, when the event will be featuring

Susan Richardson

and OTHER POETS ūüėČ

Will make sure I get all the names next time.

And that’s all, folks!

DOING A HEADSTAND (MY FIRST EVER PODCAST) WITH PATRICK WIDDESS

There are a lot of podcasts on the net, and now….there is one more!!!

A week ago I was in my living room, being interviewed about my writing and performance by Patrick Widdess, presenter and runner of the Headstand Radio podcast blog and you can hear the results here

HEADSTAND RADIO offers an eclectic series of podcasts featuring music and poetry of all kinds. Patrick Widdess, himself a talented poet who performs his work at poetry events and open mic nights, is a kind and generous host and I thank him for this opportunity to step out from behind the microphone and offer my words to the ether!!

If you take a listen, I hope you will be willing to offer a response to the writing prompt I offered. Patrick asks each of his guests to provide a prompt that he then writes something from to read in the next podcast. He also invites listeners to join in and respond to the prompt too. During my HEADSTAND you will be able to hear what Patrick made of ‘A grain of Sand’ which was the prompt offered by previous guest, The Walking Poet, Julie Pritchard. I look forward to hearing what Patrick comes up with and to listening to him interview his next guest.

(Disclaimer, we did no literal headstands)

Now open in Cardiff: STUDIO FINCHI for all your photography needs

Last weekend I had the honour, privilege and pleasure of providing some spoken word entertainment at the opening of STUDIO FINCHI

A day long celebration event saw the doors of Studio Finchi thrown open to the public to examine the studio and pose for a sample portrait shot or two taken by Seb Mardones, a highly skilled photographer whose lens and photographic eye has zoomed in and out of locations worldwide.

The joyous ceremonial opening day continued into the night at a party featuring DJ sets and Efa Supertramp.

Thank you Studio Finchi for inviting me to bring word pictures to your place of actual pictures, may your journey be everything you wish it could be and more!
